Well time has certainly gone by pretty quick since my last post. We had an excellent spelling bee that was won by Ryan Witner a 7th grade student. Ryan was our runner-up last year and he stepped up his game to take the coveted first place trophy this year. Our second place speller was also a seventh grader, Alex Ferdenzi. This sets up quite a battle for next year!!
The snow has wreaked some havoc on our schedule, but not the marking period. The marking period did end last Tuesday, January 27th. Report cards will be coming home soon.
The weather has had an impact on the calendar. It looks like we will definitely have school on March 27th. March 27th was supposed to be a built-in snow day. If we did not need it, we would have the day off. Well, that's not going to happen. Wake the kids up on that Friday and push them out the door.
Finally, I have been working with the minor league baseball team up north in Augusta, NJ--The Sussex Skyhawks! They have offered to give each student who gets an "A" on their report card 2--that's right--TWO tickets to a game up at the stadium. This is a great opportunity since many times these types of promotions have the parents buying an additional ticket just to get their child into the game. This allows two tickets for the "A"
Just so we get it right--if you get a "A" you get two tickets. There is no cumulative effect! If your child gets 5 "A's" that does NOT mean you get to take the whole neighborhood for free! The school that has the most kids go to the park will be eligible for a $1,000 donation from Skylands Bank and the Skyhawks.
This is a great promotion!

Mid-january thoughts
Well here we are on the day of a historic inauguration and heading towards the end of January. It is always hard to believe that the time can fly by as it does!
We are going to be extending the marking period by a few days. please refer to the Friday Bulletin this week to reference the schedule. The marking period is not going to be ending this Friday, it will be ending on Tuesday the 27th!
Mrs. Carr and I have finalized many of the details for the 8th grade trip to Washington, DC. The trip is scheduled to roll out on June 3rd and return to OCS on June 5th. We will be visiting the White House, Mount Vernon, museums (The American History museum is back open, YES!), the Holocaust Museum and many other national sites! We are staying in Olde Town Alexandria at the Sheraton Suites. The cost of the trip will start at $300.00! The students have participated in a few fund-raisers and the final fund-raiser--the Pasta Dinner Night-- will be coming up on April 1, 2009! mark your calendar and start working on your appetite!
The OCS Spelling Bee is this afternoon. The Bee will bee-gin at 2:00 pm and we will have students in grades 5-8 competing to represent the school in the National Spelling Bee.
Till next time...

Welcome back!
We are into the new year and as I write the snow is coming down heavy in my neck of the woods.
I wanted to remind everyone that since we have had a few snow days and since we have a few built-in snow days, we will start to see changes to the calendar. Right now we will be having school on the Friday of President's Day weekend in February. Friday the 13th! We do not suffer from Triskaidekaphobia here at OCS! Please mark your calendars accordingly. Students who are absent on this day ill be counted as unexcused (unless they are ill and they have a note).
We will be providing more information on how the other snow day is going to be handled--and any future snow days-- very soon.
Enjoy the snow!
