Welcome back!

We are into the new year and as I write the snow is coming down heavy in my neck of the woods.

I wanted to remind everyone that since we have had a few snow days and since we have a few built-in snow days, we will start to see changes to the calendar. Right now we will be having school on the Friday of President's Day weekend in February. Friday the 13th! We do not suffer from Triskaidekaphobia here at OCS! Please mark your calendars accordingly. Students who are absent on this day ill be counted as unexcused (unless they are ill and they have a note).

We will be providing more information on how the other snow day is going to be handled--and any future snow days-- very soon.

Enjoy the snow!

Till next time...

Can you tell me, do we have a rule that states we must have a delayed opening in the event of extremley cold weather? And what guidelines do we use to follow rule?

Dear Mr. M,
Although I enjoyed seeing Triskaidekaphobia which is the fear of 3 and 10 = 13 but here is some fun trivia for you. The fear of Friday the 13th is actually called paraskavedekatriaphobia, which is a word derived from the concatenation of the Greek words Paraskeví (Παρασκευή) (meaning Friday), and dekatreís (δεκατρείς) (meaning thirteen), attached to phobía (φοβία) (meaning fear). This is a specialized form of triskaidekaphobia, a simple phobia (fear) of the number thirteen, and is also known as friggatriskaidekaphobia. The term triskaidekaphobia was derived in 1911 and first appeared in a mainstream source in 1953. Now I bet you think I am really smart!!!! lol :)

In response to "lwrhome" and the post:

Let me first say how sorry I am that I did not see this comment when you put this post up, my apologies for the delay in responding.

We do not have a policy that outlines the delay of school based on the temperature. In the past we have delayed when we had temperatures that dipped below the zero mark and with the wind chill went to about 15 below. When the weather is forecasted to be this cold, I get up and check the temps., call to see what other schools in our area are planning to do and also look at the forecasts for the time kids will be waiting for the buses or walking to school.
