Well, it wasn't absolutely freezing this sixth day of spring! Over the next few days we have many things going on at the school and I hope we see a great number of people here for them all!
Kindergarten Parents Orientation Night is Tuesday, March 31, at 6:00. Parents of new KG'ers will be able to meet the Principal and Vice Principal as well as the Kindergarten teachers. If you have never seen the building we will be giving a tour and Mrs. Nyman, our school nurse, will be here to give important medical information for the upcoming school year.
Wednesday, April 1st is the annual Pasta Dinner! We will throw the doors open at 5:00pm. Tickets are available at the door. The cost is $7.00.
Finally, on Thursday April 2nd, we will be presenting our proposed budget for the 2009-2010 school year. The meeting will be held in the school cafeteria and will start promptly at 6:00 pm. Please join us as we meet to discuss the proposed spending (and the savings) for the next school year.
Till next time...

To quote Robin Williams…
“Spring is nature’s way of saying, Let's Party!”
Today is officially the first day of Spring. You start to notice it slowly. When you let the dog out in the morning it is not so cold that your shake for an hour after he comes back in! It stays lighter longer. The grass is starting to turn that yellowish green color. Apple Mountain is open, and you start to pick up the faint sound of birds chirping every morning. Yes, Spring is here!
With a new season comes new events and new challenges. State testing will be here at the end of April and take up most of May; school will be in session on March 27th; there will be a meeting for all parents of our new Kindergarten students on Tuesday March 31, the Pasta Dinner will be Wednesday, April 1st (no fooling!) and there will be a presentation of the 2009-2010 school budget on Thursday, April 2nd!
Be sure to get your tickets for the Pasta Dinner on Wednesday, April 1st! This annual fundraiser helps our 7th and 8th grade students generate funds for the trips they will get to take each year. Our 7th graders travel to the estuaries and bays of southern New Jersey for ocean and estuary studies. Our 8th graders travel to Washington, DC. This is a great night and the students are working hard to make this night successful.
If you have a son or daughter who is entering Kindergarten in September, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 31st. At 6:00pm we will be meeting with parents who have incoming Kindergarten students as part of our orientation process. The meeting will be held in the OCS cafeteria.
Enjoy the first days of Spring!

Best Tricky Tray in 2008!!
If you did not know this, our PTO Tricky Tray was tied for first place in the category of Best Tricky Tray! This award is bestowed by trickytray.com and is voted on by the people who know tricky trays. Congratulations to the PTO and the Tricky Tray Committee. If that does not fire you up to come out on April 25th to the 2009 Tricky Tray, you are going to miss out on another great night!
The PTO is also sponsoring a Kids Tricky Tray that will be held here at the school on May 16th.
Mark your calendar for both of these fun opportunities.

Enjoying the warm weekend...
makes me think about the coming spring and summer months and the many projects that will be occurring here at the school. The building renovation projects are moving along in a positive direction. The drawings are being put together and the bids for construction will be going out soon.
On another note... Good Luck to Ryan W. as he goes to Northampton Community College this week to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Ryan is a seventh grade her at OCS and we wish him the best of luck!
The next School Board meeting is not this Thursday, it is going to be held on March 16th!

camel smokeless tobacco pouches and other ideas...
Well, a previous post was correct. The pouches of smokeless tobacco produced by the Camel Company are being sold locally. I saw them in Pa. and NJ and if it stops snowing, I will check the Busy Bee. Seems like another way to target our young people with a product that they can get their hands on that is addictive and damaging!
It is snowing so hard right now I can not even see my neighbors house which is less than fifty yards away. March is truly coming in like a lion, hopefully it gets the heck out of here like a lamb.
The next Friday Bulletin is coming out this Friday, March 6th. The school calendar for the 2009-2010 school year has been approved and you can start to mark your calendars!
I know a few parents have expressed concern about their child's grades for the third quarter. Please keep in mind that there has only been a few weeks to report grades this quarter. The students will have plenty of grades and time in the next few weeks to improve their scores.
Please remember that we are going to be in session on March 27th. That day was lost to a previous snow day. This snow day will impact the end of the school year. We will need to wait for it to stop snowing before we determine the true end of the year calendar.
Stay warm and till next time...
